pouring lamp

pouring lamp

An ambient light that is intuitive and satisfying to use: tip the lamp forward and light pours out. Developed as part of a larger project looking at switching mechanisms and an exploration of user interaction.

LED lamp with mercury tilt-switch, with waxed paperboard shade.

Thanks to Elopak and Mathmos for their assistance in realising this prototype...
(and, of course, these guys).

The carton is manufactured empty and half-sealed, using standard drinks-carton manufacture equipment.

All components are mounted on a PCB slipped between the front face of the lamp and an inner polyprop sleeve which also acts as a diffuser. When the batteries need replacing, the board can be removed via the spout.
